Last week saw Government confirm £580,000 in extra funding for the Harlow & Gilston Garden Town and the news has been welcomed by Councillors from across the local area.

Councillor Derrick Ashley, Hertfordshire county council’s Cabinet Member for Growth, Infrastructure, Planning and the Economy, said: “With 10,000 new homes planned for the Gilston Area, and 24,000 for the Garden Town area as a whole, this funding is fantastic news.

“It’ll be important in progressing plans and delivering the housing needed to support growth in that part of our county.

“The funding is a clear sign of the government’s confidence in our ability to support new homes and jobs, so that a growing population can thrive.”

“Some of the funding will also be used for councils to support the neighbourhood plans, which will ensure the community can have a say on the type of homes to be built and where.”

Councillor John Philip, Planning Portfolio Holder for Epping Forest District Council, commented: “The development of Harlow and Gilston Garden Town has reached another milestone.

“As the project gathers pace, it is a terrific example of what can be achieved by councils working together for the benefits of the wider community.”
