EAST HERTS DISTRICT

East Herts Council is one of the three Local Planning Authorities responsible for the Garden Town project, with support from Essex County Council and Hertfordshire County Council. The Garden Town covers the entirety of Harlow District and extends to the north into East Herts District. It also extends to the north, east, south and south-west into Epping Forest District.

A large number of the new homes built as part of the Garden Town will be delivered on the strategic sites to the north, east, south and south-west of Harlow.

In East Herts, seven new villages will be developed as part of the Garden Town.

In the period 2020-2033, 3,600 new homes will be delivered in East Herts District as part of the Garden Town.

In total, 10,000 new homes will be built in East Herts District as part of the Garden Town project. It will take many years to build this number of homes – likely to be taking place through to 2050 and beyond.
