Harlow and Gilston Garden Town will be showcasing transport plans to support housing and employment growth as part of a six week ‘Getting Around in the Garden Town’ public consultation, starting today, Friday 31 January.

The Transport Strategy includes proposals to manage local car journeys, air quality, safety and environmental impact by investing in new and existing public travel routes.

The consultation also seeks comments on proposals for a wide range of reliable options for getting around.

Fast and frequent buses are outlined along with high-quality provision for cycling and walking.

Proposals also include new bus lanes linking key areas within the Garden Town and beyond plus a vast network of direct and attractive cycling and walking routes.

The proposed Sustainable Transport Corridors will run north to south and east to west, connecting new communities at Water Lane, East Harlow, Latton Priory and Gilston with Harlow town centre and the train station.

Major investment is being made in infrastructure and activities to support active and sustainable travel choices, including the provision of local facilities to reduce the need to travel.

Encouraging more people to make their everyday journeys by foot, bike and bus will ensure the Garden Town can support a healthy economy and provide a good quality of life for existing and future residents while celebrating its local character and landscape.

Epping Forest, East Herts and Harlow District Councils are working in partnership, alongside Essex and Herts County Councils, to help plan and deliver Harlow & Gilston Garden Town.

Residents and businesses will be able to discuss the ‘Getting Around in the Garden Town’ proposals with transport experts from across the council partners in Harlow’s Harvey Centre on the following dates:

• Thursday 6 Feb : 10am – 4pm

• Saturday 8 Feb : 10am – 4pm

Further display day events in Epping, East Herts and Harlow will be announced in due course on harlowandgilstongardentown.co.uk and via @HGGTofficial on Facebook and Twitter.

The Transport Strategy plans can be viewed via harlowandgilstongardentown.co.uk/transport and includes a survey which invites residents to have their say on the proposals.

The consultation period officially closes on Friday 13 March at 5pm so have your say before the deadline.
